About Willow Weaving Workshops with James

Join James and discover the traditional craft of willow basket making in a relaxed, friendly workshop.

James’s workshops are designed to be hands-on from the start. You’ll work with natural willow, learn traditional basket-making techniques and, depending on the workshop, create your own handmade willow basket to take home.

You don’t need previous experience. James will guide you through the process step by step, with all the willow, materials and tools you need provided.

What to Expect

A typical basket-making workshop introduces you to the techniques involved in turning bundles of willow into a finished, usable basket.

Depending on the project, you might learn how to create a woven base, add and set the uprights, build the sides of your basket, finish the border and add a handle.

Most importantly, these are practical workshops where you actually make something. At the end of the session, you get to take your finished creation home.

One-to-One Workshops

If you’d prefer individual tuition, James also offers private one-to-one basket-making workshops.

You can discuss the type of basket you’d like to make with James, and he’ll arrange a suitable date and location with you. With James working alongside you throughout the day, there’s plenty of time to learn at your own pace and develop your willow-weaving skills.
